Senior Services Recreation Therapist will be responsible for the planning and implementation of adapted recreation services for senior center participants.  The program focuses on social inclusion and enabling seniors 50 years and older with and without disabilities to actively participate in a wide range of programming in the least restrictive environment.  These services are recreational, therapeutic, social, and informational, and are designed to meet the diverse needs of the participants.  Monitors and evaluates participants progress.   Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Adapt activities to enable seniors to participate in activities of their choice. Serve on interdisciplinary teams to assure access to activities. Support participants and families to facilitate movement across the continuum of care. Lead and support a variety of adapted activities. Work in close collaboration with the senior center staff to promote an inclusive environment. Additional Duties and Responsibilities Coordinates the participant’s initial assessment, plan, and goals. Develops and adapts activities to support the participants in achieving goals as identified by the individual and his/her team. Serves as a member of interdisciplinary teams. Supports participants, families and staff for transitions along the continuum of care. Devises special and regular recreational and therapeutic activities utilizing staff and community resources. Presents to the Senior Services Director for approval, as required. Leads individual and group recreation therapy sessions. Adapts senior center programs as needed to support full inclusion. Plans and coordinates field trips. Accompanies participants on field trips. Supports participant’s health and wellness. Coordinates calendar of activities in cooperation with senior center staff. Documents in participants chart any significant event. Maintains appropriate reports on participant’s assessments, behavioral changes, progression and/or regression. Maintains a pleasant, stimulating, secure setting for participants. Provides coverage at other senior centers as needed. Performs other duties as assigned by the supervisor which are consistent with the position and in compliance with ServiceSource’s policies and procedures. Education, Experience, Certification and Licensures Bachelor’s Degree in Recreation Therapy or related field Required certification: Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) by the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification Two years of experience working with seniors Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Must be able to establish and maintain positive working relationships with older adults and individuals with disabilities. Must be committed to a social inclusion model. Ability to work with multi-disciplinary teams. Ability to work with cross-agency teams. Experience in supporting seniors along the continuum of care.
